Centre approves Madhya Pradesh’s request for soybean procurement at MSP

The central government has approved the procurement of soybean crops in Madhya Pradesh at an MSP of Rs 4,892 per quintal, a crucial decision amid rising farmer unrest.
The approval comes as the opposition Congress launches its ‘Kisan Nyay Yatra’ to address issues faced by farmers.
Union Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan confirmed that the proposal from the Madhya Pradesh government was received and approved.
“Last night, we received the Madhya Pradesh government’s proposal to purchase soybeans at MSP. We have approved the proposal. Farmers in Madhya Pradesh need not worry. Soybeans will be bought at the MSP rates, and the full price of the farmers’ hard work will be paid,” Chouhan said.
The move follows earlier approvals for soybean MSP in Maharashtra and Karnataka. Chouhan assured that the central government is committed to supporting soybean farmers and is working with the Madhya Pradesh government to finalize the procurement.
Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said earlier that while the MP Cabinet had proposed raising the MSP to Rs 4,800 per quintal, it was later confirmed at Rs 4,892 per quintal. Despite a good production season, farmers have been receiving only Rs 4,000 per quintal in the market, he added.
The approval comes in the wake of MP Congress President Jitu Patwari’s ‘Kisan Nyay Yatra,’ which criticises the state BJP government for not fulfilling its promises to farmers.
Patwari highlighted the unmet promise of a law ensuring MSP by Prime Minister Modi, pointing to the recent government action as a response to growing farmer discontent
